Start with the surface and the result you need
Plastering quotations depend on far more than floor area. The background may need cleaning, stabilising, repair, bonding, boarding or another form of preparation before a finish coat is appropriate. Access, room protection, height, existing fittings and drying conditions also affect the work.
Andover Plasterer is an independent information and enquiry website. It may pass suitable enquiries to an independent plastering business, but it does not claim to employ the person attending or carry out the work.
Internal wall skimming
Skimming can create a smooth finish over suitable plasterboard or an existing surface that has been properly assessed and prepared. Loose plaster, wallpaper paste, gloss paint, contamination, damp and significant cracking may change what is needed. Include photographs of the complete wall as well as close-ups.
Ceilings
Ceiling enquiries can involve skimming, local damage, overboarding, joints, alterations or a finish following leak repairs. State whether the source of any water damage has been fixed and whether the ceiling is now dry. High, sloping or awkward ceilings need clear access information.
Repairs and making good
Plaster can be damaged by rewiring, plumbing, window installation, impact, movement or failed previous repairs. A small visible opening may require a larger sound area to be prepared. Explain what caused the damage and whether the other trade has finished.
Plasterboarding and dry lining
Boards may be used on partitions, ceilings, damaged backgrounds and selected insulation or moisture-management systems. The correct board and construction depend on location, fire performance, moisture, loading and the surrounding build-up. A plasterer may need to coordinate with another trade or designer.
Textured coatings and external render
Older textured coatings should not be disturbed until asbestos risk has been considered. Exterior rendering also needs a compatible system, sound background, suitable detailing and appropriate weather. Availability for specialist or exterior systems must be confirmed with the actual business.
Describe the surfaces clearly
Include the location, approximate dimensions, current condition, desired finish and safe photographs. Sending an enquiry is not confirmation that a business has accepted the job.
