Begin with the wall, not a colour chart
Brick, block, existing render, painted masonry and older solid walls may need different preparation and render systems. Cracking, hollow areas, salts, damp, failed paint and exposed details should be assessed before a finish is selected.
System compatibility matters
Traditional, cement-based, polymer-modified, silicone and insulated systems have different properties and detailing requirements. Older solid-wall buildings may need particular consideration of vapour movement. Ask the business to identify the proposed system and why it suits the building.
Access and weather
Scaffolding, neighbouring access, conservatories, sloping ground and overhead services can affect scope. Temperature, rain, wind and direct sun also influence application. Programme claims should allow for suitable weather rather than promising a fixed exterior completion date regardless of conditions.

Describe the surfaces clearly
Include the location, approximate dimensions, current condition, desired finish and safe photographs. Sending an enquiry is not confirmation that a business has accepted the job.
